What we do

Our training is empirically-informed and is customized to fit your specific needs.  We can host training at our base here in Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, and we can deliver training at locations which suit you within your local authority. Our consultancy work is informed by our research and many years of experience working with Travelling communities across Scotland. STEP is happy to consult on all matters relating to mobile families and education.  We aim to help practitioners, individuals and organisations find solutions to their specific issues.

STEP conducts evaluations to provide systematic and objective assessments of intervention programmes, projects, or policy documents.  Evaluation of their design, implementation and outcomes can help determine whether objectives have been achieved, the effectiveness of services, their impact and sustainability.  In this way, you can easily identify areas for improvement, outstanding achievements and ensure policy and practice are of the highest standard.  STEP can offer support in areas that require improvement and work in partnership to identify solutions.

STEP understands the importance of continual professional development. Whether you want to gain a deeper understanding of mobile culture, learn new strategies for supporting Traveller families, or stay up-to-date on policy changes and their implementation, our tailored CPD training packages can ensure you continue to be effective in your profession.

The training was really useful.  I now feel that I have more confidence working with the children.

It’s different from other training. You get to learn and share experiences with other teachers going through the same situations with Traveller families.

I come away with new ideas, some new resources…and a better understanding.
