Make a stencil pattern

Look carefully at the cart in the story. What do you notice about the colours, the design and the patterns? How do you think they have been made?

Your task is to make a stencil. This will help you make patterns.
You will need:
Paper or cardboard
Pencil
Scissors
Pens or paint if available
Natural materials

STEP 1
Draw a simple outline of a shape. This could be a flower, an insect, a bird or a leaf.

STEP 2
Add detail to the outline

STEP 3
Cut out the detail from your drawing. Be careful.

STEP 4
Place your stencil on top of another piece of paper and colour in using pens or paint or….

STEP 5
Place your stencil on the ground and add different colours to fill in the stencil. You can use leaves, petals, soil or bark. Break the materials down into small parts.

STEP 6
Carefully remove your stencil.

STEP 7
Try to make another stencil.

Which wagon designs do you like?

Draw a car, trailer, van or lorry. Make the drawing as large as possible. Create a small stencil shape and repeat a pattern on your large drawing using pens or pencils to colour within the shape.
