Digital Rapid Assessment Guide for nomadic learners
The D-RAG (Digital Rapid Assessment Guide)
STEP’s Digital Rapid Assessment Guide (D-RaG) supports teachers to carry out quick assessments of children’s ability levels. The resources are based on the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes in numeracy, reading and writing. The resources have been designed to be accessible, interactive and culturally relevant to nomadic communities.
The three assessments are accompanied by a set of teachers’ notes. The activities should be introduced as part of an interactive and integrated learning context that recognises a child’s broader strengths and cultural interests. The rapid assessments will be particularly useful when Gypsy/Traveller pupils return after periods of travelling.
The Assessment resources
Each assessment comes as a Powerpoint, which can be used directly with pupils. You can download onto a desktop or iPad enabling interactivity. Teachers can edit assessments to reflect learners’ interests and create a unique version for pupils. This will provide a record of the child’s ability which can be saved. The assessments are available as PDF documents, which are smaller files and are easier to print. We have revised the teachers’ notes to provide a much more user-friendly design and updated links to online resources. You can download pdfs of the new versions below or please get in touch to request printed copies.
