What are they used for?
Look at all of the baskets that have been painted by the illustrator Jo Waterhouse. Think about the shapes and sizes. Can you suggest what each one could be used for?
ACTIVITIES
Have a go at weaving your own wee basket or perhaps try create a woven place mat first to get used to the skills involved.

ABOUT Weaving Baskets
Many people from travelling communities have been making baskets for generations. Weaving baskets is a traditional skill. Baskets are created using flexible, soft wood that can be found near camps. Baskets came in all shapes and sizes and were sold in markets or by the roadside.
