Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month 20th June 2024 | Scottish Storytelling Centre, Edinburgh
STEP was delighted to collaborate with Scottish Government, MECOPP, Article 12, Romano Lav, Ando Glasgo, and Community Renewal Trust to celebrate the work and culture of Scotland’s Gypsy/Traveller and Roma communities as part of Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month 2024. Community members, stakeholders, elected representatives and members of the public were invited to an informal drop-in event at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh. It was a valuable opportunity to meet the new Minister for Equalities Kaukab Stewart MSP. STEP along with partner organisations, stakeholders and community members showcased their work throughout the day. Visitors learned about the history and culture of the communities and took part in various activities including musical presentations and Romani language lessons. The event was a great success and a chance to come together to collectively stand against racism and prejudice, showing solidarity with the diverse Gypsy/Traveller and Roma communities in Scotland.
